What you need to know about election financing rules in BC

Have you ever been approached by a candidate or political party, and had them ask if you would be their financial agent? If so, this session is for you – representatives from Elections BC will highlight the important things you should know before you agree to manage the finances for either a local or provincial candidate. Topics that will be covered include:

  • The role of Elections BC
  • What is a “financial agent”
  • Rules and requirements for contributions and expenses
  • Authorization of election advertising
  • Reporting requirements
  • Resources and upcoming information sessions for the 2024 Provincial General Election
  • Potential fines and penalties

By the end of this presentation, participants will have a better understanding of the election financing rules, and the requirements under the Local Election Campaign Financing Act and the Election Act.

Please note, federal elections are not administered by Elections BC. For more information about the election financing rules for federal elections, please contact Elections Canada.
